CRJCF Gilmer County Releases

Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is the main regional-jail route for a person detained on a Gilmer County matter. It can hold adults before trial and after a sentence, as well as some people committed to state or federal authority. That mixed population means an exit from the CRJCF index can have several meanings. Bond, personal recognizance, dismissal, time served, probation, acquittal, or another court order may return a person to the community. A transfer may instead move the person to a state prison, another jail, BOP, USMS, a hospital, or ICE.

The physical release entry answers when the person left CRJCF and, when releasable, may state the release type or receiving authority. The court order answers why custody was legally allowed to change. A later WVDCR prison or other agency result can show where the person went. These records should agree before a firm release claim is made. If only the live search has changed, describe only what was observed and the time checked.

Confirm a CRJCF Release

The WVDCR offender-search hub separates jail and prison searches. Choose the jail route for a recent CRJCF detention. Search the least ambiguous spelling and retain any booking, case, or offender identifier. A current CRJCF result proves only that the person was listed in custody as of the system’s update. A no-result response is not an affirmative release record.

1. Search the WVDCR jail index and record the date, time, spelling, facility, and identifier used.
2. If the name is gone, check the separate prison index for a state commitment or transfer.
3. Search Gilmer Magistrate and Circuit Court records for bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, or another signed order.
4. Call CRJCF with the identifier when current confirmation is needed for pickup or personal knowledge.
5. Request the release-log entry when the exact date, time, type, or receiving agency matters.

The WVDCR Daily Incarcerations and indexed Admissions Summary material do not show who was released. Daily Incarcerations is a current-population report. Admissions record arrivals. Neither can be reversed into a release list. No official CRJCF 24-hour or 72-hour release feed, update promise, or post-release public display period was found.

CRJCF Release Record Fields

A release record is not one fixed form. Relevant CRJCF material may include the admission or booking record, commitment, bond paperwork, release authorization, property receipt, release log, and transport record. Ask for existing fields instead of assuming a document title. This reduces ambiguity and helps the custodian locate a narrow record.

Codes such as “REL,” “TRN,” or an inactive flag should not be guessed. Ask for the data dictionary or field legend. “Inactive” does not always mean free in the community. A destination code can be decisive where a person left CRJCF but entered another jail or correctional system.

CRJCF Records and Contact

WVDCR operates and keeps the regional-jail record. Call CRJCF to confirm the current custodian and submission address before sending sensitive identifying detail. The Gilmer County Sheriff can help identify the arresting or receiving agency and may hold its own transport record, but it is not the custodian of CRJCF’s release log merely because the original charge arose in Gilmer County.

A focused West Virginia FOIA request should give the full name, date of birth or booking/OID when known, approximate admission date, and Gilmer case number. Ask for the existing admission and release-log entries, date and time released, release category or authority, receiving agency if that field is releasable, and relevant field definitions. Electronic delivery may reduce handling, but no official CRJCF fee schedule was found. Ask for an estimate.

Under West Virginia Code §29B-1-3, the custodian must make an initial response as soon as practicable and within the statutory maximum of five days excluding weekends and legal holidays. Production can take longer. Exempt juvenile, medical, victim, investigative, security, sealed, or expunged material may be redacted or withheld under §29B-1-4.

CRJCF Court Release Proof

Gilmer Magistrate Court handles misdemeanors, bail, and early felony proceedings. Gilmer Circuit Court is the felony trial court and court of record. A felony release inquiry may require both systems because the initial appearance and bond can be in magistrate court while the plea, sentence, probation, dismissal, or amended order sits in circuit court.

Useful records include a bond order, dismissal, acquittal, sentencing order, jail-credit order, probation order, revocation order, or amended sentence. The signed order shows legal authority. It does not always show the minute CRJCF completed release processing. When timing matters, pair it with the facility’s release date and time. Court filing time and actual exit time are related but not interchangeable.

Magistrate Record Search can return name, birth date, filing date, charge, disposition, and a document list, but document images are not supplied through that search. WVPASS covers circuit records and may provide public documents to registered users for a nominal fee. Copies can also be requested from the proper local clerk.

CRJCF Transfer Status Checks

A state-sentenced person may remain in a regional jail for a time and later appear in the WVDCR prison index. Use the prison search only after there is a state commitment or a transfer reason. A prison location proves state placement, not release. Likewise, parole eligibility, a future projected date, or a hearing date does not establish that the person left CRJCF.

VINELink covers CRJCF and West Virginia state prisons. It can provide custody-status notices, but its data come from the agency and can lag. WVDCR also states that transfer notice waits until arrival at the receiving facility. A gap during movement is therefore not proof of community release. BOP Locator applies only when federal custody is plausible. ICE ODLS applies only when immigration custody is a genuine possibility, and an ICE detainer may make a CRJCF “release” a transfer rather than a return home.

CRJCF Release Pickup Planning

CRJCF is in Sutton, outside Gilmer County. Confirm both location and actual release before traveling. No official source identified a public pickup door, fixed release hour, weekend or holiday procedure, property-release rule, or jail-specific transportation service. Visitation directions should not be reused as release instructions.

Call the facility for the current exit point, identification rules, property procedure, and expected processing stage. A court order can authorize release while administrative checks, another hold, or transport arrangements still prevent an immediate exit. Little Kanawha Transit serves Gilmer and nearby counties as a general-public provider, but the research does not establish a CRJCF stop or release pickup. Call 304-866-5522 in advance to confirm service area, schedule, reservation rules, and the actual release location.

Note: Never promise a pickup time from a court event alone; CRJCF must complete the physical release and all hold checks.

CRJCF Regional Jail History

CRJCF opened on February 22, 1993, as the prototype for West Virginia’s podular regional-jail design. It serves Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Lewis, Nicholas, Roane, and Webster counties. That regional structure explains why a Gilmer County arrest is searched through a state-run facility in Braxton County rather than through a sheriff-branded county jail.

The facility houses adult men and women and serves pretrial and sentenced populations. State-committed and federal prisoners may also appear in regional-jail operations. Its name includes “Correctional Facility,” but a person’s exact legal status still must be read from the record. The facility type alone does not show whether someone is awaiting court, serving a local sentence, awaiting state placement, or held for another authority.

This history is operationally useful. It directs records requests to WVDCR, search activity to the state jail index, and legal questions to the Gilmer court. It also prevents the common mistake of calling the sheriff’s Glenville office “Gilmer County Jail.”

After a CRJCF Release

Release to the community can still include probation, parole, mandatory supervision, or another court condition. Probation is court ordered and handled through Judiciary probation offices. Parole is conditional release from state incarceration, decided by the West Virginia Parole Board and supervised through WVDCR. Neither is proved merely by absence from CRJCF’s roster.

These are navigation leads, not promises of admission, eligibility, or an open placement. An official county snapshot reports no Gilmer day-report center, so one should not be invented.
